Non-GMO Month brings awareness of products free from artificially manipulated ingredients

GILBERT, AZ (October 1, 2018) – More consumers are paying attention to the ingredients in their sweeteners and with October being Non-GMO Month, Wisdom Natural Brands®, maker of the SweetLeaf® Stevia Sweetener family of products, proudly notes that the Non-GMO Project Verified logo is included on the labels of its best-selling and award-winning stevia sweeteners.

“SweetLeaf® Stevia Sweetener is perfect for those seeking a better-for-you sweetener. It has zero calories, zero carbs and gives consumers all the desired sweetness with a non-glycemic response,” said Carol May, CEO of Wisdom Natural Brands. “We’re proud that many of our products are certified Non-GMO because consumers demand and deserve products that are free from any artificially manipulated ingredients.”

More than 70 percent of U.S. consumers are now reading labels specifically for sugar content, according to a new study by Kerry Health and Nutrition Institute titled, “Sensibly Sweet, Formulating for Clean Label Taste.” The majority of people surveyed say they want to cut their consumption of sugars. Sixty-eight percent of Americans want to reduce the amount of sugars in their diets, according to a 2016 Reuters poll. Consumers cited carbonated soft drinks, cakes, pastries, ice cream and juice as foods and beverages that contain too much sugar, according to the Kerry study. The study also found that consumers are seeking natural sweeteners—including stevia—to replace added sugars.

SweetLeaf® products contain no artificial sweeteners. Many of its products have the Non-GMO Project Verified label: SweetLeaf® Stevia Sweetener packets, SweetLeaf® Liquid Stevia Sweet Drops® in 50-ml. bottles, 15 SweetLeaf® Liquid Stevia Sweet Drops® in 2-oz. bottles, SweetLeaf® Water Drops®, SweetLeaf® Organic Stevia Sweetener and SweetLeaf® Organic Extract.

In addition, SweetLeaf® Stevia Sweetener packets and SweetLeaf Organic Stevia Sweetener are Paleo certified, meaning these products have met the restrictions of the Paleo diet template and do not contain any artificial coloring or preservatives.

“We want consumers to know that they can trust SweetLeaf® products, which is why the Non-GMO Project Verified logo is important to include on our labels,” May said. “SweetLeaf® sweeteners are also an excellent way to reduce added sugars, which the American Heart Association recommends.”

The American Heart Association recommends a daily added sugar limit of no more than 9 teaspoons/36 grams/150 calories for men, and 6 teaspoons/25 grams/100 calories for women and children (ages 2-19). Children under the age of two should not consume added sugars at all. With excessive added dietary sugars linked to increased risk of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, SweetLeaf® aims to offer a deliciously satisfying alternative which can help consumers meet this important recommendation.

From SweetLeaf®’s natural and organic packets to fruit-flavored Water Drops® for a yummy upgrade to still or sparkling water to the delicious flavors of Sweet Drops® in everyday beverages and foods, the SweetLeaf® family of products adds award-winning taste without the negative health effects of added dietary sugars or artificial sweeteners.
